Wrestling

Six members of the Wabash wrestling team traveled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin on March 15-16 to compete in the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championship Tournament. The team as a whole tied for 20th place out of 66 teams. 

In the tournament, James Day ’26 captured a third place finish in the 125-pound bracket, earning him All-American honors. Day went 4-1 in the tournament. Day faced the eventual champion in his first match on Saturday, sending him to the consolation bracket, where he rallied with two wins.

Golf 

The Wabash golf team competed in the Rose-Hulman Great Lakes Invitational on March 16-17, tying for second out of fourteen teams. The team finished with a score of 595, tying with the University of Dubuque.

Brayden Weiss ’24 tied for first place in the invitational, finishing with two-under 140 over 36 holes. He was named NCAC Men’s Golf Player of the Week. Sean Bledsoe ’26 tied for second in the final individual standings with a score of 148. 

Wabash will return to the course on April 5-6 to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational. 

Baseball 

Over the weekend of March 16-17, Wabash baseball hosted Hanover College for three games, a double-header on Saturday and another game on Sunday. The Little Giants went 2-1 on the weekend, splitting in the double-header and winning on Sunday.

In game one, Wabash rallied from down 5-3 to take an 8-7 win. Nick Logan ’24 and Will McKinzie ’26 led the way with a combined three triples and four RBI.

On Sunday, the Little Giants never trailed in a 6-5 win, including bombs from both Camden Schiedt ’25 and AJ Reid ’24. 

The team traveled to Greenville, Illinois for a game that would take extra innings to be decided. Greeneville University won the contest after a walk-off homer put them ahead 8-7.

The Little Giants will be back in action on Saturday, March 23 with a double header against Illinois Wesleyan University. 

Lacrosse:

 The Wabash lacrosse team hosted Hanover College, extending their win-streak to five games with a 18-8 win. Jake Pippen ‘26, Quinn Fitzgerald ‘26, and Christian Dybedock ‘27 combined to score 13 of the team’s 18 goals. 

Luka DiFilippo ‘24 continued his dominance at the faceoff X, winning 24-29 of the faceoffs, as well as scooping up a team-high 18 ground balls. Colin Krekeler ‘27 was a brick wall for the Little Giants, tellying seven saves. 

The young Wabash squad will have a short break until they face-off against Augustana College on Tuesday, March 26, to wrap up their non-conference schedule. 

Track & Field

The Wabash track & field team got their outdoor season underway at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Meet on March 16. The Little Giants placed third out of six teams with 96 points. 

The team had many good individual performances in the meet, including 13 top-five finishes and four individual event champions. Evan Furuness ’26 set a career-best of 45.42 meters in the hammer throw, winning the event. Ryan Papandria ’25 won the javelin throw with a distance of 46.77 meters. Quinn Scholar ’26 launched the discus an impressive 44.64 meters to secure the win in the event. Finally, Owen Smith ’27 won the 400-meter hurdle in his collegiate debut, with a time of 58.47. 

The track & field team will travel to Indiana Wesleyan to compete in the Polar Bear Classic on March 22-23. 

Tennis: 

The Wabash tennis team returned from its spring break trip to host nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Little Giants fell short to the Warhawks, losing the match 6-3. 

Wabash (7-6) captured an 8-5 victory at number three doubles from Tharakesh Ashokar ’26 and Blake Discher II ’26. Rafael Rin ’27 scored a 5-7, 6-0, 10-6 to win in the fourth singles flight, while Vittorio Bona ’27 claimed number six singles with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory.

The tennis team will be back in action when they travel to Hanover College next Friday, March 29.

Volleyball

The Wabash volleyball team honored Carson Meadors ’24, Ricky Sessions ’24, Julian Alvizo ’24 and Luke Davis ’24 for their senior night against Calvin University on March 15. The Little Giants went back and forth with the Knights, but ultimately fell short in a five-set match, 3-2. 

Wabash (13-7) continued MCVL conference play on March 16 with a matchup against Trine University, losing in a 3-1 contest. Ricky Session ’24 led the charge with 19 kills while Will Beikes ’25 gifted his teammates with 19 assists. 

The volleyball team travels to Fontbonne University on Friday, March 22 for more MCVL action.

Rugby 

The Wabash rugby team competed in the Obetz Tournament over the weekend, going 0-3 in the torment. Despite the less-than-anticipated outcome, there were many scorers throughout the tournament. In the second half of game one, Nate Powell ’27 and Jerry Little ’24 both recorded a try to bring the Little Giants within two points of Franciscan University. In game two, Wabash only recorded one try in a 36-5 loss to Xavier University. In game three of the tournament against Baldwin Wallace University, Ben Grill ’26 and Reilly both scored a try, losing a close 12-10 loss.
